Description

Durbanville Wine Valley heats up winter with ‘Soup, Sip and Bread Festival’
On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June 2012.

Don your gumboots, pashminas and rain dance your way to the annual Soup Sip and Bread winter festival in the Durbanville Wine Valley. Look out for indulgent soup and wine pairings like gewürztraminer with sweet potato soup, and merlot with hearty beef soup. Celebrate winter, revel in feel-good fire places and cosy conversation. Kick off the season abundantly and with heart

Now in its 4th  year, the Soup, Sip and Bread event will once again have visitors flocking from far and wide to the wine route a mere 20 minutes from the city centre.  The soups are homemade, the breads freshly baked and artisanal, the diverse range of wines a perfect match, and the setting heavenly for a day with friends and family.

Taking a tongue-in-cheek look at the art of food and soup pairing, and searching their cellars for soulful partners to team up with soups, chowders, bisque and gumbos are Groot Phesantekraal Farm (Phizante Kraal Wines), Klein Roosboom, Nitida, Meerendal, Hillcrest, Durbanville Hills, Diemersdal, De Grendel, D’Aria, Bloemendal and Altydgedacht.

“Discover the intimate wine route’s luscious reds snuggling up to soups, stews and traditional bredies,” invites Thys Louw, Chairperson of the Durbanville Valley Wine Association. “Bring family and friends along for the warm company, hot music and great pairings. Meander from farm to farm or settle in at your favourite spot for the day, feasting on winter-inspired dishes and sipping on wine.

“And for those who think the Durbanville area is limited to summery sauvignon blanc, our reds holds a special surprise, keeping in mind that merlot and shiraz are the second and third most planted cultivars in the valley,” he adds. “Festival-goers will discover just how flirty merlot – the Durbanville Wine Valley’s signature red – can be around food.”

Hillcrest: Hillcrest shares comfort soups, homemade quiches, curries and chicken pie. Relax, warm up and sway to the live music. At the estate we follow suite with nature’s guidelines and have gone all out preparing for the cold months that awaits the people of the Cape. Come and join us at our “cosy nest” in the form of our new improved function facilities and let us show you how to embrace the cold winter months with wine, soups, breads and live music to warm the soul!
